Learning Objectives:
During this course participants will:
Gain an understanding of how mental health can be impacted by current state laws, federal laws, and societal events targeted towards the transgender and enby community.
Become informed on the needs of the transgender/enby community beyond the known hurdles of accessing hormones and surgery.
Engage in a discussion on how to differentiate between the roles of therapist and case manager with trans/enby clients and how those lines are often blurred in the therapy room.
Learn information about overlooked resource referrals for transgender/enby clients.
Practice learned information by responding to questions around given vignettes.
A working lunch and two 10 minute breaks will be included.
Registrants will be provided with an introductory guide including transgender/enby 101 terminology and references two weeks prior to training. Attendees will receive a reference packet filled with information and resources talked about during training.
Instructor Information: Jacob Rostovsky, MA is an associate marriage and family therapist practicing in Los Angeles. Jacob is self identified as transgender and has been an activist within the community for 15 years. He has done over 100 trainings around issues facing the transgender community. Jacob has also made various media appearances including guest spots on Oprah and Dr. Phil. He primarily works within the LGBT+ community, working directly with the HIV positive community and transgender individuals.
